I figured that since this pertained to a poem this would be the best place to put it ;p Anyway, I notice a lot of authors like to add a poem to the introductory portion of a story so I thought I would try my hand at it. I'm hoping it summarizes the events that lead up to the beginning of the story so my goal is to make it both poetic and informative before diving into the rest of the tale.
On the night of Samhain Kits were kept in their beds. The town watch was posted An’ sheep locked in the sheds.
On the night of Samhain The night dwellers would roam. Creeping from the shadow lands Seeking prey far from home.
On the night of Samhain The folks of day would cower. Praying for the end to The night lord’s power.
On the night of Samhain The dark ones reign supreme. Vanishing with the morn Like an ill begot dream.
But this night of Samhain The sun never returned. The night had no ending By the Gods, they were spurned.
On this night of Samhain Even Lady Moon fled. Replaced by two dead orbs Drifting far overhead.
On this night of Samhain The Long Night had begun. Those once hated now rule The lands of the lost sun.
I believe it needs one last stanza. Something that that gives an ominous foreshadowing of what is to come in the rest of the story. I am somewhat torn on whether to continue the rhyme scheme or try something more freestyle to set it apart from the rest. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
